Canada Career Month
Each November, Canadians from coast-to-coast celebrate Canada Career Month. Focus is on the importance of accessing meaningful work and all those that help us in connecting with our preferred futures. As local Career Education Practitioners, we endeavour to improve access to career services and education so that our students are better prepared to develop their careers and transition into the emergent labour market.
BC Careers Week
In BC, a new governmental proclamation has now identified November 25-29, 2024 as our provincial "Careers Week", to support Career Education and expand students' knowledge of diverse career pathways.

Event 1: UBC Geering Up and Outreach – 10:00am (1 hour)
As part of an exciting series on future careers in engineering, students in grades 3 to 5 will explore three dynamic demonstrations, each showcasing a different lens into renewable energy and materials. Focusing on aerospace, chemical, and material engineering, this event will offer students a hands-on look into the world of engineering. Students will think like engineers—making hypotheses, predictions, and even improvements—while following along with discussions and a worksheet. Register your school for this event

Event 1: Education and Employers Charity — 9:30am (1 hour)
"Drawing the Future – ‘What’s My Line?"
This session will present an interactive career exploration activity for students in grades 3 to 5 that challenges stereotypes often associated with certain careers. Students will share their impressions of careers and career pathways through drawing, then meet and hear from those working in diverse jobs. Register your school for this event
Event 2: BCIT Engineering & SD83 - 12:50pm Online Presentation
This virtual seminar will feature a moderated discussion with various guest presenters explaining the journey to their engineering career, schooling they took and what they do in their jobs. Register classes or individual students here. You will receive a link to the event before the presentation date.
Event 3: JABC & SD83 - 7:00pm Webinar
"Discover the World of Business and Money"
JABC (formerly known as Junior Achievement) helps prepare young people for the world of work, how to think entrepreneurially, and ensure they have the tools to be financially capable adults. This particular presentation is geared toward Grades 4-6 parents and students. There will also be an online game or two that parents and students can participate in during the event.
